SI Joondalup – NAIDOC Day Celebrations at Culunga Aboriginal Community School
On Wednesday 22 September, President Bobbi Buckle and Secretary Maggie Martin from Soroptimist International of Joondalup attended a belated NAIDOC Day (National Aboriginal And Islander Day Observance Committee) and end of term celebrations at Culunga Aboriginal Community School.
President Bobbi presented Darryl Eades, the school’s Principal, with a $1000 cheque as part of Soroptimist International of Joondalup’s commitment towards the ‘President’s Project.’
The children took part in cultural activities, learning useful skills such as how to start a fire using only sticks. ‘Koodah’ Cornwall, a Nyoongar leader, presented the activities to the children. There were many other classroom activities and an awards ceremony, where the Principal told students that the main goal of the School, besides education, was the development of future leaders of the community.
The morning was finished off with a barbecued lunch of tasty kangaroo steaks, sausages and crocodile meat.
