Members have been collecting old glasses during the year for the Lions Save Sight Foundation and handed them to the foundation at their meeting on 14th November (World Sight Day was 13th November). The foundation began in 1964 and is now the leading volunteer eye organisation in WA. They now conduct regular screenings all over WA for glaucoma, amblyopia and retinopathy. As well as raising awareness through education into the prevention of eye disease, their mission directed towards research into causes, diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. Their recycling glasses program involves collecting and sending recycled prescription lens glasses to countries in need. SI Fremantle will once again be collecting glasses during 2012, and encourage other clubs to do the same. They can contact the Fremantle club who will organise for the glasses to be handed to the foundation.
