Celebrate 100 years of International Women’s Day!
• 2011 marks the 100th year of International Women’s Day!
• To celebrate this milestone there will be a host of events during the week of International Women’s Day, culminating in the UNIFEM IWD Centenary Breakfast ‘grand finale’ on Friday 11 March.
• International Women’s Day is a time for men and women to celebrate women’s achievements and create opportunities to improve the lives of women.
• Following last year’s sell out successful event that raised over $15,000 to empower migrant women workers in Indonesia, we have moved to a larger, more central venue at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
• This special UNIFEM Centenary of International Women’s Day Breakfast will also see the official transition in WA of UNIFEM to its new name of ‘UN Women’.

Where will funds go?
• Funds raised at UNIFEM Australia’s International Women’s Day Celebrations in 2011 will go towards UNIFEM projects that promote women in governance and leadership.
• In our neighbouring Pacific Islands, less than 13% of politicians are women, which is one of the lowest rates of representation in the world. Globally, that figure stands at 19.1%, meaning that women comprise less than a fifth of parliamentarians.
• UNIFEM works to train women to run for parliament, providing them with the technical and financial assistance necessary to overcome barriers to female leadership and seek office.
• Promoting women in leadership promotes the representation of concerns of women and female role models for the next generation.
