SI Carnarvon – Attend State Reception With The Queen
I – being the president of the Carnarvon Soroptimist’s received an invitation to attend the State Reception at Government House for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip on the 27th October 2011.
The function was held in the lower gardens of Government House in the afternoon. Unfortunately I did not get to speak with the Queen or the Prince but I was fortunate to be next to a young girl who was presented to her so I was able to see her up close! The afternoon went very quickly with a great speech by Colin Barnett welcoming the Queen and presenting her with a book of Western Australian Wild Flower drawings by Philippa Nikulinsky. The Queen did not make a speech but the royal couple did spend an hour and a half doing the royal walk around the grounds.
The afternoon was very special and a great honour for SI Carnarvon who are celebrating 30 years of service this month and after the floods in December and January which affected so many of our members, the town and the region it was great to be acknowledge this way.

President SI Carnarvon
