SI Joondalup hit the Fundraising track early in 2011
February 1, 2011
Necessity was the key to getting the first fundraising event off the ground very quickly for SIJ. Garages at some members’ homes were becoming a hazard with all the donations received for our next swap meet which was set for May 2011 but had to be brought forward to January. Wendy Wheildon and her band of willing Soroptimists, Jennie van Driel, Lynne Jarred, Belinda Shepley, Jan Musk and Jill Broom, had little time to ponder this decision because trade was brisk right from the word ‘go’. Other stalls around had little business up to 9 am.
The morning ended with another successful outcome, raising over $600. There were still lots of items left over which was topped up by the two nearby stall holders who donated all their unsold size 8 – 10 clothes. These will be sent to East Timor along with unsold bed linen and other items. Culunga will also be the beneficiaries of other things as well as children’s clothes and the remainder went to the Cancer foundation.
